The Young Investigator Honour (YIA) provides funding to promising investigators to encourage and promote quality enquiry in clinical oncology. The purpose of this grant is to fund physicians during the transition from a fellowship plan to a faculty appointment. This is a mentored award and the research projection is conducted under the guidance of a scientific mentor.  Applications in all areas of cancer research are accepted from U.S. and international applicants.

The YIA is a 1-yr grant totaling $50,000 that supports personnel and/or research expenses, and travel to attend the Conquer Cancer Grants & Awards Anniversary at the ASCO Annual Meeting. Applicants who are selected to receive a YIA are allowed to receive other grants from other funding agencies.

Eligibility

Applicants must run into the following criteria to qualify for a YIA:

  • Be a physician (Dr., DO, or international equivalent) working in any country and currently in the concluding two years of his/her final subspecialty training at an academic medical institution and within 10 years of obtaining his/her medical degree at the time of grant submission. Examples of subspecialty training include, merely are non limited to, a hematology-oncology fellowship, a surgical oncology fellowship, or a radiation oncology residency. An Doc, PhD is eligible if both degrees are completed prior to the start of the grant flow.
  • Be planning an investigative career in clinical oncology.
  • Have a valid, active medical license in the country where the research will exist conducted at the time of application.
  • Exist working in an oncology laboratory or clinical research setting.
  • Accept a mentor in the proposed inquiry field from the sponsoring institution. The mentor must assume responsibleness and provide guidance for the research. If the mentor is not an ASCO member, a supporting letter from an ASCO member from the sponsoring institution must be included.
  • Be able to commit at least sixty% of full-time effort in research (applies to full inquiry, not only the proposed project) during the award catamenia.
  • Be an ASCO fellow member or take submitted a membership application with the grant application. Apply for new membership, or renew an existing membership.
  • Eligible physicians are allowed to hold just one grant from Conquer Cancer at a time.

In Conquer Cancer's connected efforts to promote diversity and inclusion, funding is available for awards focusing on research in disinterestedness, diversity and wellness disparities. Applications focusing on these areas are strongly encouraged.

A YIA Special Competition is open for applicants whose enquiry project falls under the areas marked with an asterisk (*) below. The specific Request for Proposals (RFP) for each competition is provided. Applicants with research projects focused on all other areas and those from other groups may download this RFP and employ to the YIA full general competition. Applicants may only to submit one YIA application.
